MN or der Schweiz...

Kickin' It

The most previous weekend outing to Grand Marais included a stop in beautiful Lutsen Mountin ski area.  It is a place I used to think of as where only rich kids went to blow a bunch of money skiing in the winter.  While that still may be true for winter, in the summer it appears to be quite empty.  We took the gondola or Mountain Tram from the ski lodge up to the restaurant on top.  The ride was amazing but nothing could have prepared me for the view we were about to take in.  We were so enamored we spend a few hours just sitting here.  Get out and explore, because the exotic is sometimes right around the corner!

Camera spec's: Nikon D3100, 35mm f1.8 set at f10, 1/400, ISO 400

Grand Marais kind of day...

It is absolutely amazing when you can spend even a few hours out of town relaxing with your wife! This weekend katina and I spent 36 hours driving to, enjoying, and relaxing in Grand Marais, MN. It is a scenic little town up north that many people have heard of but few go. All the better in my eyes! We don't want more crowds...come to think of it, Grand Marais is horrible. You wouldn't like it all :-)

Okoboji Relaxing...

View from a Second Home

Sometimes you find yourself in far away places... that is what I thought when I was snapping this shot at 6am in Iowa at the newly renovated cabin on my wife's family's land on Okoboji.  It is a simple one floor carriage house style cabin above the woodshop and garage that serves the other 3 cabins.  It was nice.  That TV and air conditioner you see were so perfectly relaxing that I just couldn't believe it.  Maybe it was something about the direct AC that reminded me of being a kid but it just was great.  I hope anyone reading this can find themselves everyone now and then having the same feeling.

Happy 4th of July!

More from the Future...

This one is the actual "Synth" type of file. Amazing how image-making is being given tools like never before!

The Future of Photography?...

I found this app this weekend and can't believe it! It is called Photosynth and comes from Microsoft. Piggybacking on all that iPhone has to offer this free little app can compile your 360 degree view for you in a matter of minutes! It even snaps the shots for you as they line and better yet, you can have locked exposure so your panoramas don't change as you go around as so often happens. This things is amazing; I wish I had when I was atop the Great Wall or at the Kolner Dom or the Taj Majal!
