More Guest Photography...

Lake Atalan
Copyright 2009 Matt Swanson

My good friend, St. Paul-based photographer Matt Swanson, just sent me these striking images from his trip to Guatemala in March! The transparent blue and violet hues of the lake scene are just breathtaking. The image was shot with a Nikon D40. This is one view I would love to spend hours photographing...I don't know that I would ever top this one, though.

Fresh back from Renee Swanson's 3-month student teaching in Guatemala , the husband and wife team are hosting a charity event to raise funds for Renewing the Countryside and Two Wheel View. These two local non-profits are working to support sustainable living and introducing children to foreign cultures through cycling trips abroad. The event is May 22nd-23rd and involves a 150 mile cycling route through beautiful southern Minnesota as well as a gourmet dinner at a rustic setting. Cost of participation is $135/person and includes dinner, support team, AND free t-shirt. Tickets available at eventbrite.com.
Sounds like a great opportunity to make a few images along the way, as well....

Spring is Sprung!

Warmth
Copyright 2009 Matt Mortensen

Spring is in the air and things are bright and beautiful in Minnesota! Lots of exciting buzz with family and friends coming and going to all corners of the country in the next month. Ralph is back from India with crazy good photos to share. Check out his Facebook album! Angela is well in Ghana although having trouble getting online and blogging is not really an option she assures me! Melissa and her family had a close run in down in Peru with some armed bandits but came out unharmed, thank god! Grissell is doing well in DC although she recommends never trying to see the Cherry Blossom Festival...to many people everywhere! Chaos is fun for some people, G! Anyway, that is a quick Spring time update on all the happenings. I hope to get some more photography stories from my first spring in MN in 7 years soon, so check back often. I hear it's beautiful hear right up until the mosquitos come out...

Photography hold...

Antigua
Copyright 2009 Per-Fredrik Larsson

The Chimbote photo display is up and showing all the southwest metro what a great job the Chanhassen Rotary is doing in a far away place. The pictures of the Alzheimer's Education Conference have been edited and sent off to the marketing people in Edina. It is now officially 'down time' before wedding and graduation season for Matt Mortensen Photography and what better way to relax than to share some other people's photos. The beach above is a nice image captured by my friend and fellow scientist, Swedish photographer Per-Fredrick Larsson. The shot was taken on his recent trip to Antigua. I really like how the clouds don't seem quite real! Enjoy!

Chimbote Photo Exhibition Opening!...

Copyright 2009 Matt Mortensen

Starting today the Chimbote Photo exhibit is being hosted at the Chanhassen Rec Center! Thanks to Jodi Sarles and Todd Hoffman for all their help with the facility. I hope this exhibition will bring attention to the amazing difference that the Chanhassen Rotary along with other clubs is making in a far away city on the coast of Peru. Stop by after this weekend to pick up a brochure to learn more about Rotary International or grab a donation form to help out in Peru or with a local project! Also, prints of any of the images can be purchased through a donation to Los Amigos. Just leave your name and request in the place provided near the exhibit and I will make arrangements with you personally.
Don't forget that we are selling tickets to the 5th Annual Tulip Gala and you can get more information at our table at the Rec Center. This event raises the majority of the funds that allow us to help out at home and around the world. If you can, please come join us at this premier event!
